| The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago - April 14th, 2004. The historic WWII German submarine U-505 has been on display outside for the previous 50 years. It will be moved to an indoor exhibit, four stories underground, on April 21. This was the last time the submarine would see the light of day. As it was no longer tucked between two building and attached to them through it?s entry tunnels (used for touring the inside of the submarine) this was also a unique opportunity to see the submarine from a new perspective. The first photo shows the submarine appearing to "plow" through the construction site. The next shows the support armature being constructed to lower the submarine 40-plus feet underground. The third shows the view from the west side. Photos on the next page show details of the submarine and the hydralic wheel assembly used to move it from its old location on the south-east side of the museum to its new one on the north-east side. All photos are the work of Dino Milani © 2004.
