This site represents a growing collection of over 5000 photographs of Mississippi River Boats, Barges, Bridges, Historic Homes, Buildings, and Monuments from river towns in the Midwest. Originally, I started the collection to document the things and places one can still find in modern times, that are related in some way to the Grand Excursion of 1854. This was for our local tributes in 2004. The original event promoted the 1852 completion of the railroad line from Chicago to Rock Island, Illinois, which then allowed passengers to connect with the steam boats on the Mississippi. For the first time in history, one could travel from Chicago to St. Paul or St. Louis in comfort and speed, and never once get on a horse! Those days are gone but many landmarks remain. My collection then grew into a broader selection of the historic places and monuments that can be found nearby, and it is growing still. Check back occasionally to see what has been added. Great care has been used in producing the prints. The best quality inks and paper, as well as acid-free matts, are used for each item. Many photos are the result of 10 to 60 hours of work in the studio before printing took place. Prints are made in limited numbers and so are unique. Some photos are not yet listed for sale. If you see any you wish to purchase or if you have a special request, please feel free to contact me. All images are my own and original, and as such are subject to the protection of the copyright laws of the United States of America.
